Why school staff need food hygiene training- and what level is needed?

Why do school staff need food hygiene training?

All school staff including Headteachers, Governors, lunchtime supervisors and afterschool club teams have a legal duty to maintain a safe environment for children and young people.

Did you know that this includes when you are serving food and drink too?

Food hygiene training is not just for those in the kitchen cooking the lunches – this also applies to those of you serving sandwiches at meetings, selling cakes at the Easter bake sale and handing out refreshments on Parent’s Evening too.

What level food hygiene training do you need?

It is the law that anyone who prepares sells and serves either food or drink is required to have level 2 food hygiene training following the Health and Safety at Work Act.

This training should include:

What food poisoning is

  • Physical, chemical and biological contamination
  • How to avoid cross contamination
  • Critical control points
  • High and low-risk foods
  • Food storage and preservation
  • Personal hygiene
  • Cleaning.

So, whether you work in a nursery, primary school or secondary school if you handle food and drink this includes you!

You can get food hygiene training that’s easy to roll out to all your staff. We know how frustrating it can be to find affordable training that is engaging and effective. And we know how difficult it can be to arrange all the different training your staff need. That’s why we’ve created one subscription that includes everything you need.

You’ll find our level 2 food hygiene training course, accredited by RoSPA and CPD-certified you can roll out to all your staff in our subscription – but alongside all this, you will also find all the safeguarding courses required to satisfy Ofsted/Inspectors including prevention of radicalisation, child protection, and FGM awareness.

All courses, one subscription, one price, no nonsense.
