Posted on Jun 05, 2015

Caitlyn Jenner Introduced herself to the world on the 1st June on the Vanity Fair cover. She tweeted:

‘I'm so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can't wait for you to get to know her/me.’

Within 4 hours, her twitter had become record-breaking reaching 1 million followers in four hours breaking the previous record-holder, Barack Obama. After only 5 tweets and 4 days since opening the account, her followers have risen to the meteoric heights of 2.38 million.

So who is Caitlyn Jenner?

Knowing today’s media, the chances are you already know. But, for anyone who doesn’t let’s start at the beginning.

Caitlyn Jenner was born William Bruce Jenner, and was an American athlete who won the men’s decathlon event at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.

Jenner was one-half of the Bruce and Kris Jenner power couple who came onto our screens through ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians.’

In April of this year Jenner announced that she had dealt with gender dysphoria since her youth and has been taking hormone replacement therapy on and off since the 1980’s.

A statement that Barack Obama himself has commented on saying “It takes courage to share your story.”

So welcome Caitlyn.

With such a high-profile, how have the public responded? Here are a few blogs with some different responses.

“Equality and diversity is not treating everyone the same. It simply means difference. It’s about recognising that there are individual differences as well as group differences and that people should be treated as such.” – flick
