Everything you need to know about FGM

FGM is a horrible, painful, and illegal procedure happening to girls all over the world and potentially thousands of girls in the UK.

We are now mid cutting season – when girls are most at risk of being taken away and cut by someone who is unqualified with no anaesthetic.

As there is no medical benefit from this procedure, you might be thinking that no parents you know would put their child through this. Unfortunately, some parents believe that they are helping their child become ‘pure’.

Because of this, it is extremely important that you understand what FGM is. Now is the time to be vigilant – so to help you understand what FGM is, who is at risk, what the signs are and what action to take should you suspect, we’ve compiled a list of flick blogs to help break it down for you.

Action to take should you suspect someone is at risk of FGM

It is important that you incorporate FGM awareness within your safeguarding policies. This way, if any member of staff suspects someone may be at risk, they will have the correct information to help them.
